About MC World Compressor
MC World Compressor is a free, open-source tool that helps players reduce the storage footprint of their Minecraft Java Edition worlds without losing any of their progress, builds, or gameplay data.
Our Mission
Long-running Minecraft worlds easily grow to several gigabytes, even when most of the explored map is barely visited. We built MC World Compressor to give players a simple, no-registration way to recover that wasted disk space and to make worlds easier to back up, share, and migrate between machines or servers.
The Problem We Solve
Minecraft stores terrain in chunks of 16×16 blocks, grouped into region files. As you explore, even briefly visited chunks are persisted to disk forever. A standard ZIP only compresses the existing data; it does not eliminate the unused chunks themselves. The result is worlds that are far larger than they need to be.
How It Works
Our compressor parses the structure of your world, identifies chunks that have never been edited or that have only been briefly visited, and removes them from the archive. The remaining data is compressed with a modern, fast algorithm. The output is a clean ZIP that Minecraft can read directly, typically about half the size of the original.
Privacy First
We don't ask for accounts, emails, or payment. Files you upload are processed in memory and on temporary storage, then deleted within one hour. We never inspect or share the contents of your worlds. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Open Source
The project is developed openly on GitHub under the MC-World-Compressor organization. You are welcome to read the code, file issues, suggest improvements, or contribute translations to make the tool accessible in more languages.
